About me
I 'm a design thinker, actualisation coach, and adventurer who merges these skills to enable people to challenge their comfort zone, develop consciously, and create forward-thinking, purpose-led solutions towards a better self and world.
This ‘online portfolio/CV meets vision board’ is a reflection of who I am, what I’ve learnt, and the ongoing life journey towards a desired legacy I want to create, showcasing my unique blend of different hats (or roles) of knowledge, skill, and experience I have to offer:
About me
I 'm a design thinker, actualisation coach, and adventurer who merges these skills to inspire people to challenge their comfort zone, develop consciously, and create forward-thinking, purpose-led solutions towards a better self and world.
Careers and CV’s are funny really. We can spend years crafting them out in specific areas and yet still might not connect with who we really are or what legacy we want to create in life.
I realised my career journey (and thus this online Portfolio CV) should be a reflection of who I am, what I’ve learnt, and the ongoing life journey towards a desired legacy I want to create – a CV meets vision board if you will.Â
With this fresh approach here is my unique blend of different ‘hats’ (or roles) of knowledge, skill, values, vision, and experience I have to offer you, and which I have funnelled over the years into different completed (and proposed) personal and client projects below:
We all have a unique blend of
different hats to offer...

...these are mine:
Design Futurist
This involves envisioning, designing, and innovating feasible and impactful future solutions that ultimately help humans grow and think better, whether through new or improved product, service, game, or app concepts and features, human-led spatial design environments or social innovations, or in forward-thinking brands.
It may involve helping clients analyse future scenarios and setting out concepts, seeing what future-solutions may be needed based on human behaviour and psychosocial issues, as well as helping individuals and/or teams develop their own forward-thinking potential and design-thinking process in order to be actively ahead of the curve in seeing what humans need now and in the near future.Â
This has been my core staple career, which slowly developed from multi-disciplinary design related fields such as graphic, web, and then UX design, which later was fused with a keen interest in human behaviour psychology and future-thinking to craft a current career as a ‘design futurist’ (or innovation consultant).Â

As well as serving clients, I’ve also fuelled my design futurist title into other projects I’ve created.

The Envisionary (Website)
This is now the core of my design futurist career path - an online academy (course and tools) that helps individuals and teams develop their forward-thinking skills and craft their own vision, and where we consider future problems that need solutions, as well as where I help clients with design-thinking-led projects (and actualisation coaching). Â
The Conscious Designer (Book)
This book helps us understand and welcome the next stage of design-thinking - one which transcends past the recent waves of design for attention and experience (that have created a unique human problem for us), and one which we all must be involved in for it to be impactful.
non-fiction book in progress
Walls Of Influence (Series)
In 2038, VR and AI paves the way to a new hub of 'escapertainment' as a new VR game sees players glimpse into their own future, bringing awareness of future influences and issues others around them don't see. But, if they attempt to make others aware will they become targets themselves? Is it already too late to change?

Healinno (App)
A progressive app that enables people to note and conceptualise forward-thinking ideas, and then bring ideas and teams together and run idea sprints to solve problems. The future of ideation that sees the best ideas and solutions rise to the top, and leads towards healthy innovations that can then be crowdfunded and developed.Â

Design & Innovation Client Portfolio
Design-thinking consulting work...
Sometimes solutions are about solving complex ‘wicked problems’ and trends that affect (or may affect) us psychosocially, such as broken system logistics, social media addiction, potential dehumanising AI effects etc., and so running design sprints to identify potential core problems and then implementing design interventions and/or building human-led, social innovations are needed, such as:

Climate Awareness Interaction
A live, fun, interactive installation experience to help children and young adults learn about how to deal with (and adapt to) climate change. Like zap-zone meets maze meets trivia
Homelessness Awareness Interaction
An interactive board game/app and experience to raise awareness and action on a growing homelessness endemic, by fostering relation rather than contempt
System Design Chatbox Rethink
Chatbots were implemented to help users and save humans time, but they’ve arguably just led to less human contact and more time wasted for all without problems being solved, leading to this think tank rethink
Petrol/Charge Station Flow Lanes
Pollution builds when vehicles are stationary and queueing, and so a solution to improve flow and electric charging options to deal with busy times was created

Human development-led app/product concepts...
As an ideator and forward-thinking design futurist, part of my job is to initiate and conceptualise new and improved solutions that utilises available technology to aid human development, not hinder it, such as with these human-centred and forward-thinking app and business concepts:Â

Design, brand, and UX work...
Before evolving into a design futurist and innovation consultant, I had built up a staple amount of work as a designer, through brand identity, space design, start-up concepts, and UX/UI projects. Other parts of these roles involved more analytical work in determining brand positioning or creating UX-led profiles and personas etc, but here are some design-related examples:

Actualisation Coach
An actualisation coach helps individuals or teams understand and fulfil their potential by aligning their values, vision, and goals with intentional action, taking a holistic approach to self-awareness (via models such as spiral dynamics) and a focus in developing forward-thinking (AQ-led) skills to both help move someone forward and to help them understand other people’s and/or system paradigms better, so they can ultimately develop improved human-centred solutions.
With my history evolving into a design futurist that embraces forward-thinking, psychology, and design systems, actualisation coaching goes alongside this in a coaching capacity, and is a ‘hat’ I’ve been developing over the last few years, along with resources to help people understand and embrace this new-form of coaching.
Actualisation projects...
Actualisation Coaching
As an actualisation coach I help teams & individuals understand their own values and vision, identify & navigate conflicts from their current mental map of consciousness (with spiral dynamics), think differently, and coach forward-thinking (AQ) that either leads them towards their next stage of human development or to a clearer design-thinking process or solution.

Adventurer
I’ve always loved adventure and travel. I lived abroad for over a decade of my life and it allowed me to challenge my comfort zone, explore culture, feed creativity, and led to my fiancée, but since returning to the UK around Covid times adventuring in the great outdoors has arguably saved my life.
It’s helped me push through some hard times, and now it’s become a new lease of life that I’m growing to help others too – with my recently founded site TripSetGO, and via other personal adventure & optimisation challenges and projects.

Finding The Traveller Within (Book)
Having spent over a decade alternating living and travelling abroad, I learnt first-hand how beneficial travelling is to living more impactful lives beyond. This book shows the journey and advantage of a traveller's mindset over a tourist one that stays within a comfort zone.

'We can spend years getting settled, but adventure helps us feel alive'. I aim to inspire people of any age to seek anti-fragility via physical and mental challenge adventures, having also set myself a huge 'optimise goal' for every year (40-50). (part of Richly Wills Podcast and TripSetGO).
TripSetGO (App)
Taking the TripSetGO site further, the planned TripSetGO app helps you create and follow your tailor-made trip itinerary based around your specific trip goal, and which also adapts to your purpose on-the-go to help you get the best out of your trip goal whilst on it, and suggests next steps beyond it.

Writer / Author
Writing has always been my way of processing thoughts and often helps me formulate ideas too, but professional writing started in a non-linear way when travelling years ago, having gained a few travel writing gigs and receiving commendation.Â
Since then, under my pen name R.S.Wills, I’ve used writing (both through Fiction and Non-Fiction) to express intrigue into a variety of areas but mostly around the core subjects of psychology, design thinking, travel, and futurism, where I’ve developed some expertise and published as an author.Â
Note: some writing projects are found under specific skill titles instead of below.
Writing projects...
Kroy (Book)
The long-lost world of Kroy comes back to life, or had it been here all along? As the spirit of Kroy finds a way to slowly seep into the lost souls of today's Kroy (now York), will these spirits help or hinder, and how do we know which? And who is helping these ghosts of the past return, and why?

The Swanage (Book)

Bearventures (Series & Site)
What started out as a fun co-writing project with my fiancée in our own time led to the creation of a whole Ted Bear world and characters, which sees a special group of 'Bearventurers' set about finding their lost friend on their adventure around the Bearlagos, finding more than they 'beargained' for.Â

The Antidote To Noise (eBook)

The ADHD Switch (eBook)
Finding out as a 35+ adult that I have inattentive ADHD was a bit of a shock at first, but then considering my zest for ideas and hyperfocusing throughout life, it wasn't at all. Instead, it brought validation to a mind that is imaginative, different, which should be unleashed in the way it is meant to be. This book helps other inattentive ADHD adults accept and unleash their difference too.Â
non-fiction ebook planned
Donkey Toilet (eBook)
Donkey what? As the title suggests, this short, direct book is about the power of stupidity in generating ideas and solutions in a competitive world where whatever you think is already out there, and how to be different in a saturated and ever-changing market where branding has to be more responsible than merely attention-seeking.

Enriched (Biog)
It may seem a bit strange to pencil in an autobiography of a desired legacy that hasn't been fully lived out yet, but this gave me a premise for a unique way to write an autobiography as an ongoing story of what has been and what could be, rewriting chapters ahead consciously rather than heading through blind mistakes. Will it change the desired outcome? We shall see!

Bassist
I’m not really that active in terms of playing bass live or semi-professionally anymore, but I do still regard myself as a bassist having spent thousands of hours learning my craft when younger, earning the nickname ‘Thumbs’ due to my unique way of using my thumb a lot of the time when playing.Â
Playing bass really helps me get into a state of flow which can indirectly help other skills I have, so I still try to find time for a session or two when I can to help focus or unwind, and I’m always open to occasional bass-related gigs that come around.
Bass projects...
Thumbs Bass
Playing bass is more of a hobby now, but for a while I was a session bassist, whilst I can still also create sample riffs for clients looking for bass riffs with my signature 'thumbs' style sound.
Bassventures
As part of the Bearventures writing there's a series of bass riffs created to symbolise each bear character and all the places around The Bearlagos map. You know where you are by the bass sound!
The Nineties
Having previously been a bassist in bands like Jagged, I casually play bass in a band that comes together once a month to play on-the-spot, improvised versions of 90's indie/alt/pop music, which uniquely invites open-mic singers to join in various songs.
keep an eye out for the next gig
“Don’t fear your lost or hidden potential. Instead embrace life to explore it”
My upcoming podcast is about getting out there and living your ‘bucket list life’ in seeking to build the dream and legacy you had, as well as seeking how to optimise yourself and live your best whilst you can (seeking out people like Wim Hof, the ice man, and Alex Huberman, a leading neuroscientist), and also exploring the big issues that are holding us back such as conditioning and childhood fear, social media attention-seeking etc.
It’s about helping people get away from shit and inspiring people to change and live their life by doing something before it’s too late, and avoiding the peril traps of modern society that lead to escapism and avoidance for instant gratification, but which take us away from truly living our limited-in-time lives.
The podcast also is about hearing from older people who wish they had done something more or else, and looks at people making great contributions and who think differently too, as well being a wake up call to myself.
I put myself into the thick of it and try to test myself with extreme challenges, not just physically, but also to go deep psychologically to find what matters most in life. It’s not about reckless dares, but a challenge in anti-fragility and seeing my (safe) limits of what I could’ve become, and my limitations of what I can’t and how to deal with that, which others can relate to (like living without kids).
It also takes a look at building a legacy by thinking of forward-thinking solutions to stifling human-related problems that are keeping us held back too (and links to the Initiative Series idea).
Essentially this planned podcast/channel brings together my design futurist, mind coach, and adventurer sides into a YesTheory ‘do things before it’s too late’ meets ImpactTheory ‘optimising interviews’ meets Tyler Oliviera ‘investigative journalism of main psychosocial issues’ unique podcast!
